Local LibDems call on Kemptown MP to stand down as councillor
Brighton & Hove Liberal Democrats have today called on Lloyd Russell Moyle MP to stand down as city councillor for East Brighton ward.
They issued the following statement: "We call on Lloyd Russell Moyle, MP, to resign as city councillor for East Brighton ward to make way for a councillor who can fully represent the residents of East Brighton at City Hall."
Local LibDem activist Orla May, who was LibDem organiser for the Kemptown Constituency at the General Election, said: "The residents of East Brighton deserve to have a councillor who is properly able to represent them and their interests locally.
"We feel that as Kemptown MP, Mr Russell-Moyle is no longer able to stand up for East Brighton residents and to have not yet stood down as city councillor is a clear indication of the disregard he has for the interests of the ward's residents.
"This is a matter of principle - imagine the other way round - if one of our local MPs had decided to stand for the council would anyone think this a credible option?
"He should stand down immediately to allow a by-election so East Brighton residents can elect a hardworking councillor to focus on the issues that are affecting them at council level."
