Brighton & Hove Lib Dems Announce Candidate for Patcham By-election
Brighton & Hove Lib Dems are delighted to announce their candidate for the upcoming council by-election in Patcham. Following a successful Covid-enforced online hustings and selection process, Madelaine Hunter-Taylor was elected as the party's candidate.
Madelaine, a life-long Lib Dem supporter and proud Brightonian, is particularly passionate about working to raise support and awareness around Domestic violence and abuse. As Director of The Rita Project, she is committed to working in local communities to change the conversation and amplify the voices of those who currently are not heard.
On her candidature in the Patcham by-election, Madelaine said "Standing as a candidate in Patcham is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the community and advocate for issues that are important to residents. I am a proud Brightonian, a parent to three teenagers who attend the local high school and run a small community interest company highlighting the impact of Domestic Abuse.
"After the challenges of the past year, I believe it's important to work together and create a community that feels safe and supported alongside doing my best to shape a city that residents are proud to call their home."
Brighton and Hove Lib Dems Chair, Hilary Ellis, said "We are delighted to be putting forward a candidate as passionate about helping people and making a difference in our community as Madelaine. For far too long the residents of Brighton & Hove have been let down by all parties on the Council, be it Labour, the Tories or the Green Party. Whether it's the council's abysmal record on recycling rates, its consistent failure to hit its own affordable housing targets or the expensive white elephant that is the i360, poor decisions have been signed off on for too long.
"As we enter a crucial period for the future of Brighton & Hove's post-Covid recovery, now's the time to elect the fresh voices and innovative ideas that Liberal Democrat candidates will bring to the council. It's a fantastic opportunity to build a brighter future."
