About Your Ward.

The ward is named after the park that dominates it. The park lies in the centre of the ward and was commissioned by Thomas Atree on land acquired by him in 1825 and named after Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV. William IV was a younger brother of George IV, the infamous Prince Regent who commissioned the building of the Royal Pavilion. Queen Adelaide used the spa based to the south end of the park. The Spa closed in1886, but remained as a mineral water plant until 1960. To the immediate north of the park there were once two schools, Xaverian College and St. Lukes. Sadly, St Lukes, a primary school is the only one now remaining. Xaverian College closed in the late 1960s when it amalgamated with Lourdes Convent and St Mary's to become Cardinal Newman and located to the St Mary's grounds in the Upper Drive. Famous past pupils at Xaverian included Sir Ralph Richardson and Peter Bonetti, the former England and Chelsea FC goalkeeper. Queen's Park has its own swimming pool based at St Lukes. But perhaps the most famous school based in the ward is Brighton College, the winner of many awards for its schooling prowess. One of its most well known headmasters was Dr Anthony Seldon, the historian and author of political biographies of many recent Prime Minsters.

Dominique Hall, Queen's Park Candidate

Local Election on 2 May

Dominique Hall, Your Lib Dem Candidate.

Dominique's great passion is Housing. Working within the housing sector gives her a deep insight into the needs of families and individuals and she understands the huge impacts that failures in that market are making.

She is a wholesale supporter of providing more housing at a reasonable cost, especially for those struggling to find a home they can afford. She questions current Labour Council housing policy with regard to private landlords and wonders why they are introducing new regulations when they have admitted that they will be unable to enforce them. Dominique believes it would be better to apply the current rules than just make up new ones.

Chandni Mistry resigns as a Queen's Park ward councillor. By-election called for 2 May.

It has been announced that Queens's Park Councillor, Chandni Mistry, has been expelled from the Labour Party and no longer stands as a Labour Councillor.
